Do you have ambitions to see Risso’s Dolphins at Ynys Enlli/Bardsey Island?  Perhaps you would enjoy watching a pod of Bottlenose Dolphins playing off Porth Ceiriad?  Or maybe you would love to surf a headland tiderace with a family of Harbour Porpoise?  This could be the sea kayak course for you.

This week of coaching and guiding will see our teams journeying along the Llŷn Peninsula’s coastline in search of cetaceans for National Whale and Dolphin Watch Week.  Our sightings will be submitted to this annual census to help scientists and conservationists understand better our favourite sea mammals.

The teams will be based out of Aberdaron at the western end of the Llŷn Peninsula.  Each day will see our groups venturing out on different journeys, ranging in difficulty from easy to demanding, in search of cetaceans.

Ynys Enlli/Bardsey Island is a beautiful island, swept by strong tidal flows along its stunning coastline.  During the summer months it is home to families of Risso’s Dolphins who use the area as a nursery for raising their calves.  The flood tidal stream sees these huge dolphins congregate in the huge eddy, off the north coast of Enlli, that becomes enriched for curled octopi and squid.

Ynys Enlli also has large seal and nesting seabird colonies.  Notable amongst the nesting birds are the 20,000 Manx Shearwater’s that reside in burrows on the mountain side.  The views from the summit Ynys Enlli/Bardsey Island’s mountain are very much worth the paddle too.
