Skill Development: Forward paddling, boat handling, edging, turning, and surf launches/landings (up to 1m)

To ensure you get the most from this Level 3 course, participants should meet the following requirements:

Recent Experience: At least 10 days of sea kayaking in the past 2 years, including some time in intro moderate water conditions (up to Force 4 winds, 2 knots tide, and crossings up to 2 nautical miles).

Fitness: Good core strength and general fitness—able to sustain 2–3 days of moderate aerobic activity and several hours of paddling daily.

Skills & Confidence: Comfortable paddling in intro moderate conditions. Completion of our Explorer (Level 2) course or equivalent experience is strongly recommended.

Age Requirement:
All tuition courses are for adults aged 18 and over. Teenagers (16–17) may attend if accompanied by a competent parent or guardian actively participating in the course.

Please note:
This is not a beginner course. If you’re new to sea kayaking or have limited recent experience, please check out our Introduction or Explorer courses first.

British Canoeing Sea Kayak Award - work through SKW’s handy checklist. We are unlikely to be able to complete the British Canoeing Sea Kayak Award award on this course, as we may be too busy playing and journeying, to complete the syllabus.
