Lofoten Archipelago

Moskenes Expedition: 9-Day Sea Kayaking Adventure

Lofoten, Moskenesøy, Værøy & Røst

Take on a true Arctic expedition in Norway’s stunning Lofoten archipelago. This Level 4 journey is designed for fairly experienced expedition paddlers ready for remote coastlines, some challenging water, and the adventure of exploring Moskenesøy, Værøy, and Røst—three of the most dramatic and remote islands in the region.

Why Paddle Here?

Southern Lofoten is legendary for its towering peaks, wild coastlines, and crystal-clear waters. This expedition offers demanding crossings, tidal flows, and wild camping on remote beaches. If conditions allow, we’ll venture to the outlying islands of Værøy and Røst, famous for their birdlife and sense of true wilderness.

This is a physically and mentally rewarding trip for paddlers with moderate water skills who want to push themselves in one of the world’s most spectacular sea kayaking environments.

Wildlife & Scenery

  • Seabirds: Puffins, guillemots, kittiwakes, and huge sea eagle colonies—especially around Røst.

  • Marine Mammals: Seals and harbour porpoises are common; whales are sometimes spotted in deeper waters.

  • Wildlife Encounters: Otters, shorebirds, and occasionally reindeer or mountain hares.

  • Scenery: Towering cliffs, turquoise fjords, remote beaches, and the midnight sun.

Expedition Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Bodø, Norway. Team meet-up, expedition briefing, and overnight stay.
Day 2: Morning ferry to Moskenes. Launch and set up for the first paddle or camp.
Days 3–11:

  • 9 full days of paddling: Flexible route along Moskenesøy and the southern Lofoten, with potential crossings to Værøy and Røst (weather and group experience permitting).

  • Wild camping each night, skills sessions, and short hikes.

Day 12: Return to Moskenes, ferry to Bodø, debrief, celebratory meal, and overnight stay.

Note: Route and island visits are always adapted for Level 4/moderate water paddlers and depend on sea state, weather, and group ability.
