Slate Isles, Scotland Expedition

The Slate Isles sea kayaking expedition offers stunning paddling in beautiful wilderness surroundings. It is a superb labyrinth of islands including: Seil, Easdale, Lunga, Luing, Shuna, Belnahua and Torsa. With favourable weather, we also plan to visit the amazing Garvellach Islands and Scarba.

The weather and tides will very much shape our expedition journey’s route. There are are extensive sheltered journey options, meaning that any adverse environmental conditions will mostly not interfere with a great expedition experience.

Our aim will be to provide an enjoyable wilderness sea kayaking expedition in an area of tidal currents, superb wildlife and interesting historical sites.

To benefit fully from this experience, participants should be comfortable paddling a loaded kayak, for up to 5 hours per day and be happy setting up wild camps, with their fantastic team mates.

We will drive to the small marina of Croabh Haven, just south of Oban, where we will pack our boats and then head west. Weather permitting it should be possible to transit Corryvrechan the ‘gulf of the grey dogs’, Cuan Sound and pass under the bridge over the Atlantic, using the tide to our advantage and out to the Garvellachs.

The expedition will be self-sufficient and you will be wild camping throughout the journey, with the odd bit of fishing and wildlife spotting including: eagles, otters and wild boar along the way.  On previous trips we have managed to paddle close to basking sharks and minke whales.

Whilst we cannot control the weather we’ll make the very best of whatever is thrown at us.
