Senja Island, Norway Expedition 2024 - 13 days

Senja Island is Norway's second largest island (outside of the Svalbard archipelago). It is located near Tromso in the North of Norway. Steep towering mountains line the intricate coastal Fjords. An abundance of marine life is supported by the rich arctic waters around the seafloor shelf. Neighbouring Andoya Island, has year round whale watching cruises - these whales sometimes visit Senja's waters too.

As a sea kayaking destination Senja is a perfect expedition challenge. It is close in size to the Isle of Skye, Scotland and in reasonable weather conditions can be circumnavigated in 7-10 days. For this expedition we will be using land-based vehicle and trailer support from a local Sea Kayaking Company and rental sea kayaks (SKUK composite).

Up to 7 moderate or advanced water sea kayakers will be encouraged to join this expedition. Two highly experienced coaches (and potentially an assistant) will support the team on their expedition. The coaches will support the team to collect environmental information for good decision making by the group on their journey.

Pre-expedition training

The team will be encouraged to meet on Anglesey (if possible) to get to know each other and plan how everyone wants the expedition to proceed. Collaborative expedition meal arrangements could also be planned/organised.
