Moderate Water Sea Kayaking Course

(AKA Introduction to Dynamic Water Course)

PREREQUISTES - Will I be OK for this course? If in doubt consider the NEW Intermediate Sea Kayak Level Course and/or call us - 07899662043

Have you:

  • Been regularly kayaking in moderate seas and/or class 3 white water conditions, e.g. 20+ days in the preceding 6-12 months

  • Got a reasonable driving/balanced kayaking style to propel your kayak forwards in bouncy conditions to maximise stability

  • Got developing rolling/self-rescue skill sets - you may get the opportunity to use these skills in authentically challenging conditions

  • Got good paddle fitness - able to maintain moderate aerobic activity for up to 6 hours each day.

We want everyone to get the most out of our courses, so if we are unsure of your suitability we will contact you to look at potentially changing you to a different course.

If you are unsure of which course to go on please get in touch on: 07899662043 or info@seakayakingwales.com

WHAT IS SO SPECIAL ABOUT THIS COURSE

This is a level 4 course and is appropriate for participants wishing to develop their sea kayaking skills in dynamic water conditions up to and including force 4 wind, 2-4kts tidal streams and 1.0m waves. We will be looking to develop skills and tactics in dynamic venues like: tide races, surf zones, rock gardens and down wind journeys. The time and complexity of skill honed in these venues will be less intense on the Advanced Dynamic Sea Kayaking Course

On this course we will focus on personal skill development to manoeuvre/perform more confidently in dynamic sea environments. We also aim to foster independence through better understanding/planning the dynamic sea environment. We will also explore risk management decisions and leadership and/or competent team membership in managing rescue problems.

  • Please note all our tuition courses are for Over 18's only - highly skilled 16+ year olds may be welcomed with an equally competent parent

(British Canoeing Coastal Sea Kayak Award - Take a look at SKW’s handy checklist.)

We are unlikely to be able to complete the British Canoeing Coastal Sea Kayak Award award on this course, as we may be too busy playing in the conditions, etc, to complete the syllabus. Should you wish to complete this award please book onto a bespoke sea kayaking day with one of our coaching team.
