Intermediate Kayaking Courses (Level 3)

Level 3 - This level of course includes journeying in moderate water conditions (see environmental definitions at the bottom of the page) and is often pitched at fairly experienced sea kayakers who enjoy journeying and aspirant BC Sea Kayak Award holders.

Participants should have a reasonable understanding of forward paddling and boat handling techniques, with a view to applying them to some moderate water conditions.

  • Are you…

    • A fairly experienced sea kayaker?

    • Who enjoys sea journeys of up to 20km?

    • And potentially visiting all areas of Anglesey’s coastline in good conditions?

This is a level 3 course, aimed at paddlers who want to journey along open coastlines in condition up to low moderate water level.

Level 3 Courses are often pitched at fairly experienced sea kayakers who enjoy journeying and aspirant BC Sea Kayak Award holders.

Paddlers on this course bring an understanding of sea kayak (or river/white water) boat handling skills, that they want to apply and develop on fairly exposed coastline journeys. These journeys provide entertainment for a wide range of sea kayaker.

Swell and current often interact with the shoreline to give challenges that the more adventurous participants may play and hone their skills in.

There will always be alternative easier lines to take.

Essentially, we aim to choose journeys where our participants can modulate their own levels of exciting or cruisey lines, as we all explore the coastline.

    • This is a level 3 course and is appropriate for participants with reasonably good core strength and fitness.

    • Recent Kayaking Experience - 10+ days Within the last two years.

    • Fitness: Can you sustain 2-3 whole days of aerobic activity, similar in intensity to a lovely coastal walk?

    • Please note all our tuition courses are for Over 18's only or teenagers accompanied by a competent parent.

Please note this is not a course for beginners.

  • The meeting location for our Intermediate Courses is the SKW Kayak Centre in Holyhead, Anglesey. Once we’ve had our morning briefing we head out to various locations across the Island and occasionally on the main land.
