Who is this course for?
Absolute beginners and those with little paddling experience
Anyone keen to learn the basics of sea kayaking in a safe, supportive group
Course aims:
Build your confidence and enjoyment on the water
Teach essential paddling and safety skills
Introduce basic navigation and environmental awareness
Set you up for further adventures and courses

Day 1
Welcome, introductions, and a relaxed overview of what to expect - This takes place at our Centre in Holyhead
Getting comfortable with the equipment and basic paddling skills
Launching, landing, and moving around safely on the water
Exploring sheltered areas and learning through practical experience
Gentle introduction to safety, group paddling, and reading the environment
Time for questions, feedback, and planning for Day 2
Day 2
Recap and build on the first day’s learning
More time on the water to practice and develop skills
Introduction to simple journeying and exploring new areas
Opportunity to try out basic rescue techniques if the group feels ready
Discussions about next steps, personal progression, and local paddling opportunities
Wrap-up, feedback, and celebration of achievements
The pace and content are always adapted to suit the group’s needs, interests, and the day’s weather. The main aim is a fun, safe, and confidence-building introduction to sea kayaking.

Courses typically run from 09:00 to 15:30

Small group sizes (max 1:4 or 1:5 instructor-to-student ratio)

This is a Level 1 course and is appropriate for all participants with reasonable core strength and fitness.
Core Strength: Can you sit upright on the floor without needing back support for a while and can you then stand up using just 1 hand for support?
Fitness: Can you sustain 2 whole days of aerobic activity, similar in intensity to a lovely coastal walk?
Please note all our tuition courses are for Over 18's (Aged 13+ welcome with an accompanying parent or guardian).

“I found the course and venues to be ideal for my limited experience. The instruction given allowed me to progress and build confidence at a pace that was most beneficial to my learning. I was encouraged to step beyond my comfort zone, as that's how we progress, although just as encouraged to ease back and consolidate what I had learned earlier.
Having some on the course who were more experienced than myself, allowed me to observe where I should be looking to progress as I become more confident, which is good for myself as I can be task objective.
If the instructors paddling skills are 100%, I started at 10% and progressed to 35%+ by the end of the course. A very tangible progression.
Importantly, at no point did I ever feel unsafe or not part of the group as I knew the instructors were aware of where and what I was doing.
The course was run with an easy going relaxed atmosphere and ready smile. Many thanks to Kelly and Tim for their patience and enthusiasm for sharing their passion.
I'm not sure what more I could have asked for.
