Sea Kayaking Wales is excited to work with Explorers Sea Kayaking on two incredible Croatia trips scheduled for September 2025. This partnership includes joint training sessions on Anglesey in March 2025, and SKW's Duncan Greene and Geth will also be heading to Croatia in April to train and assess new Explorer Kayaking BCAB Non-Tidal Sea Leaders.
In Summer 2024, Explorers Sea Kayaking brought a team of eight paddlers from their community to join us for an unforgettable experience in Pembrokeshire. We're thrilled to continue this tradition, with plans to welcome them back again in 2025. For participants joining our Croatia trips, we’ll provide full support with pre-trip Zoom meetings and training opportunities right here on Anglesey.
We’re proud to share this collaboration with you, as it reflects our shared commitment to growing and supporting the sea kayaking community. By combining our expertise and values, we’re introducing our communities to new adventures and opportunities. We hope you’re as excited about this partnership as we are! 😀Geth😀
Grab your 20% Voucher code for £115! As a token of our appreciation for purchasing, we'll credit your SKW account with £57, which you can use towards other SKW adventures and opportunities (credit valid for spending in 2025).
Kayaking on Krk, the largest island in Croatia, offers a unique blend of stunning coastal scenery and tranquil waters. Paddling along the shoreline, kayakers can explore hidden coves, clear blue lagoons, and rocky cliffs, with the opportunity to encounter diverse marine life and lush vegetation.
Orsolya Varga will be leading the #Shepaddles Croatia adventure week. With extensive paddling experience in both Pembrokeshire and Anglesey, Orsi brings valuable insights and skills to the group. We're excited to have her on this journey and look forward to the unforgettable experiences that await us on the waters of Croatia. Paddling with Orsi is always a pleasure!
The KRK's mild Mediterranean climate makes it ideal for kayaking from spring to autumn, while its varied coastline provides routes suitable for both beginners and experienced paddlers. The charming beach towns along the way, such as Vrbnik and Baška, enhance the experience, inviting kayakers to pause and enjoy local cuisine and culture.
Please get in touch if you have any questions about the trip that haven’t been answered below. :-)

The Island of Krk is the largest island in Croatia. It has a great variety of beaches, lush green vegetation and clear waters. It is also an easy place to launch kayaks for exploring. The island is situated in the northern end of Adriatic, and is one of five islands in Kvarner Gulf. The island is roughly 45km long and 20km wide.
During the 5/6 Paddling Days you will experience paddling along steep shorelines and make crossings to explore other islands.
Plans are made so they can be changed…
Each day’s paddling destinations and routes will chosen based on the group's skill level, strength, and the weather.
Day 0.
We arrive at our base for the week and enjoy some time exploring the local area on foot.
Day 1.
As this will be the first day after a travelling, it will be nice and slow.
We will be paddling in the immediate area in the direction of the amazing medieval town, Vrbnik.
There will be shorter and longer day options, depending on the group’s enthusiasm and energy levels.
Day 2-6
Our launching venues will be situated across KRK. Whilst there will be lots of time spent on the water, there will also be several breaks as well as the opportunity to explore places on foot.
The paddling plans for the week will include; the little islands to the south of Krk, including the steep, rocky beauty of Prvic, the mountainous eastern coastline of Krk, and Tito’s formidable prison island for political prisoners, Sveri Grgur.
On Tito’s Prison Island there will be the chance to visit the semi-tame deer living on the island and tour the prison compounds now open to the public (open, quite literally, as most of the roofs are missing).
We also hope to visit Vrbnik, a stunning medieval town, paddle along the gorgeous rocks and under the gaze of giant vultures of Prvic and kayak to the Kosljun monastery on a tiny island near Punat.
These are just some of the places we hope to explore.
Should you choose to have a non-paddling day, you might choose to explore:
The town of Krk,
The Franciscan Monastery on the tiny island of Kosljun,
The amazing Vrbnik,
Or take a ferry ride to the Island of Rab with its sandy beaches.

We will be based out of Silo, Krk
There’s lots of 1+ bed apartments available in Silo, Krk for as little as £230 (lots around £300) for a week: Booking.com - please check the map feature to ensure your booking is near the village centre to enjoy social evenings with the other participants.
Explorers Kayaking recommend the following apartments:
https://apartments-villa-bernarda.com/accommodation/

These apartments are about a 3 minute walk from each other.
Silo is a picturesque but simple seaside town on the protected, east side of the island.
